Tauhid - Monotheism
Tawhid: meaning oneness [of God] is the defining doctrine of Islam. All Muslims believe that the entirety of the Islamic teaching rests on the principle of Tawhid. It affirms the indivisible concept of monotheism in Islam. Tawhid declares the unity and uniqueness of God as creator and sustainer of the universe : that Allah, is One (Al-ʾAḥad). The first part of the Shahada (the Islamic affirmation of faith) is the declaration of belief in the oneness of God. To attribute divinity to a created entity, known as shirk, is an unpardonable sin according to the Qur’an.
Shahahada - Affrmation

Each and every moment during the fast, a person suppresses their passions and desires in loving obedience to God. This consciousness of duty and the spirit of patience helps in strengthening one’s faith.
Nubuwwah - Prophethood
Nubuwwah – Prophethood: A prophet is the recipient of divine revelation whose revelation contains God’s specific commands and prohibitions in the form of an ethical code recorded in scriptural form as guidance. The prophet is a witness of God’s unity, announces the righteous conduct God wills for this world, and warns of God’s judgment on the Last Day. In Islam, prophethood is always defined in terms of Muhammad ‘s(PBUH) experience, since his is considered the final, perfected message sent to confirm all previous revelations brought by the Abrahamic line of Prophets.
Quran
Quran: literally means “recitation.” To all Muslims, the Quran is the word of God transmitted through the Prophet Muhammad( PBUH) . The Quran proclaims God’s existence and will and is the ultimate source of religious knowledge for Muslims. The Quran is considered to be the ultimate authority in all matters pertaining to religion. It furnishes the basic tenets of the faith, the principles of ethical behavior, and guidance for social, political, and economic activities. It is used in the five obligatory daily prayers and for special prayers during Ramadan.
Zakah - Charity
Zakat: literally means to “that which purifies” . All Muslims understand it as a form of alms-giving in Islam. Zakat is considered a religious obligation for most Muslims with financial means. Some deems it as voluntary. Zakat is based on income and the value of all of one’s possessions. Zakat signifies acceptance of material responsibility. It used for the needy, for propagation of the faith, to relieve debtors, and to help travelers
Qiyamah - Day of Judgement
Qiyamah is the concept of bringing back to life of human beings for final judgment. Muslims believe that the present life is only a trial preparation for the next realm of existence. A day will come when the whole universe will be destroyed and the dead will be resurrected and must account for how they have lived their lives. This day is the Day of Judgment. On that day, God will reward all people according to their beliefs and deeds.
Salah - Prayers
Salah: Prayer is an obligatory religious duty for every Muslim. It is a physical, mental and spiritual act of worship that is observed five times every day at prescribed times. In this ritual, the worshiper starts standing, bows, prostrates, and concludes while sitting on the ground. It must be done facing the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca (qiblah).

Statements by Sunni Scholars
This is the famous Fatwa (religious verdict) of one of the Sunni world’s most revered scholars, Shaikh Mahmood Shaltoot with regard to the Shi’a. Shaikh Shaltoot was the head of the renowned al-Azhar Theological school in Egypt, one of the main centers of Sunni scholarship in the world.
Statements by Shia Scholars

Muslims, Sunnis and Shi’is together, represent no less than one quarter of the inhabitants of this planet. We should be thankful to Allah and should be united on all the principles and values on which we agree and forget the differences that divide us and tear us apart. By the blessing and bounty of Allah and through our unity we can bring peace and justice in this world. Through our unity we can defeat the radicals and terrorists who have created havoc in the world. Through our unity we can neutralize those who spread hate and phobia against Islam and Muslims. I pray to Allah to make sincere our intentions, unite our hearts on faith and piety and guide us to all that is good and safe for us for our faith, our world here and Hereafter.
Dr Muzamil SiddiqiWe should not allow this sectarian malignancy to invade the American Muslim body nor should we allow these notions to persist. We should treat any sectarian rhetoric as an obscenity. People are free to express their sectarian biases in their homes or sectarian cocoon, but not in the public among Muslim organizations and mosques.
We will work together for the future of Islam in America. I have conveyed what is true to my heart; oh Lord, be my witness.
Late Dr Maher HathoutThe continued success of Islam and Muslims depends on two foundational elements: The Phrase of Unity (kalimat al-tawhid) and The Unity of The Phrase (tawhid al-kalima). It is not enough that as Muslims we simply believe in monotheism, but that we translate this belief into unifying action; into mutual respect and cooperation in the face of our differences. This is the fundamental message of the Holy Prophet and the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them.
Imam Sayed Moustafa al-QazwiniIslam does not require a Muslim to follow a particular Madh’hab. Rather, we say: every Muslim has the right to follow one of the schools of thought which has been correctly narrated and its verdicts have been compiled in its books.
The Ja’fari school of thought, which is also known as “al-Shia al- Imamiyyah al-Ithna Ashariyyah” (i.e., The Twelver Imami Shi’ites) is a school of thought that is religiously correct to follow in worship as are other Sunni schools of thought.
